I was heartened to see that Native Instruments had responded to some of the negative reviews with a promise of getting together and talking about the issues. It’s impossible for us to know exactly what’s going on. But there are enough negative reviews to bring the overall rating of Native Instruments down to 2.1 stars.

On the positive side, they all seem to agree that the free coffee is good. Some reviews reflect a perception that staff are not listened to and that the management don’t understand the products or the passion of their staff. There’s a lot of anger caused by the lay-offs and the lack of communication. The “last 3 months” are referenced several times and appear to refer to multiple lay-offs both at the USA and German offices, the cancellation of projects and innovation, bureaucracy and a lack of any kind of clear road map.Īll of the negative comments, often by employees who are and have been working there for years, are directed squarely at the CEO and Executive Board. There are mentions of a sexist work environment, low pay and lack of motivational benefits. Many reviews talk about the disconnection of the CEO and higher management. If you would have the tiniest bit of dignity you would step down and honestly apologize.Īnother talks about the mental health of employees living in limbo with no communication and no trust in the management. Some working for this company since more than 15 years, many with family and kids. Today you (the management) fired over 100 of your employees. One former employee posted on the 29th August that: They aren't pretty.Recent posts on the company review site .uk paint an alarming picture of the state of things at Native Instruments. Percussive and SFX synth patches also go a long way in helping you quickly achieve the vibe of current R&B tracks. And, understanding this intention, through experience, they really, really do this well.

They are intended for a form of music that is very vocal oriented. They aren't intended to be the big, bold, epic patches. The pads are designed to sit in the back. However, once I started using them within a lush R&B track, I ended up being very impressed. Originally, I had harsher words for ModeAudio when I first heard the pads in this set. This is a bank that really excels when you see how the patches work together. It's not a bank that will blow you away when you first sit down with it because you'll try to focus on the individual patches. And, really, that's where the set, as a whole shines.

Shapshifter, while labeled as a lead, can technically, through it's modifiers, be a go to patch for those little, 'filler' sounds, that always wedge somewhere between the bass and lead. Lost Highway will do nice in some moody, laid back groove.

Big Bad Wolf is already going into my regular set of patches. The leads of Open Spaces also soar with some lovely sci-fi elements, as well as some of the thinner, Moog-ier, patches, like you'd expect. And, being very honest, here: hardly any effects, aside from some compression are needed. Simple, basic modifier mappings were thoughtfully put together and can be quickly molded for a variety of different track types. Synth basses are low, deep and really do sit well within all of my Nu R&B-ish tracks. But, in no area more than the Bass section of the Massive (yep, NI) bank of sounds. With that being said, it's okay for the patches to sound a little more 8-bit and a little more electronic. Recent trends homage towards lush electronica more than any era I can remember. Do these patches add up to the soul that went into the demo? Let's find out? Sucka for Basses

Being most observant, ModeAudio has capitalized on R&B's current evolution with Open Spaces-A Massive (No, literally) expedition into both yesteryear and today. In recent years, R&B has begun to morph into a sound that is both reminiscent of a more electronic era, and something even more romantic… If that's even possible.
